Happy Holidays!!! Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmas, New Years, whatever it may be - hope you're enjoying it!

Things have been wicked-hectic for yours truley but that's how it goes this time of year!

-Didn't make it to Ohio due to snow, however a fun cereal/pop-tart/american beer run was made to Buffalo, which included a stop at the Cheesecake Factory for desert!

-Found out I have an ulcer and imflammation in the tummy. Taking steps to destroy it, so could be worse!

-Got a tattoo of a cassette tape with 'Uncle Mike' written inside (thanks, brother Dave!) This was to symbolize Mike's impact on my life and the cassette signifies the tape me made for me, which contains my all-time favorite album: Oasis' What's The Story, Morning Glory? Got it on the18th of December - my Bro and Mike's birthday!

-Grinch musical was spectacular and fun for the whole fam!

-Christmas was plain awesome! Started a new tradition with my Mom and I having brunch with Amanda, Dave and Mikey on Christmas Eve! Such a great time! The whole holiday was great seeing mine, Amanda's and Katie's family! Twas a great time!

-2 years ago we lost Papa Fred but his kind spirit and sense of humor will never be forgotten! Miss ya, Pop-pop! One of the, if not THE funniest dudes ever!

Happy New Year,

Steve

www.decemburns.org

Cool idea! May participate in the growing process.

Movember was nothing but a huge success - our team rasied over $2100! AMAZING!!!

I want to keep awareness going. Maybe unibrows for June (Jun-ibrow?) or not grooming for January (MANuary?)

Patent pending, patent pending, patent pending!!!

Decembrrrrrr

If you have access to a calender today, you are well aware that it is the first of December, and as such you probably know that Hanukkah begins tonight and Christmas is only weeks away!

I'm making an effort to do this blog more. It's very easy to look at this blog and say, "It looks like Steve has a lot of fun doing this; surely he should keep it up!" To which I reply, "Thanks, I will keep it up...and don't call me Shirley!" (RIP Leslie Neilsen)

LET IT SNOW BABY, LET IT REINDEER!!!

Testing, Testing...

Does anyone read this pile of words anymore? I'm not sure, but I apologize to those who visit and are subsequently dissapointed with my effort (or lack thereof.)

I do miss blogging, though I can't help but feel the slightest bit vein when doing this. But then again, as my lovely girlfriend pointed out, it is called 'Steve Thoughts' for a reason and I never claimed to be a reliable source for all your blogging needs.

ANYWAYS...here is another jumbled assortment of what is going on in my life:

-Attending the official MOvember Gala Parte tonight in Toronto, alongside Katie. I will be sporting a blazer and a blonde (sandy blonde) stache. Tomorrow is a bash for MO in Hamilton, should always been fun-filled and beer-fueled as well. Sorry liver!

-Santa Clause Parade with my neph and the fam this Saturday!!!! Stoked that Mikey loves Christmas and shall be a great day indeed! Also, I found out I have Christmas Eve off!

-Poker with the dudes on Saturday night!!!! I honestly look forward to these nights as much as anything! Always fun! Come to think of it, gonna be a great weekend!!!!

-Celebrated 2 awesome years with Katie last week!!!!!

-Noel and I did commentary for the pilot episode of A-1 Wrestling last weekend, which is set to air in December on Cable 14!!!

-Got my rear windshield smashed last weekend, not so great! Could have been worse!

-Going to be taking an online Fundraising course in the new year through Niagara College. Really stoked to continue my education with something that I am wicked passionate about!

-Getting a new tattoo, which will be a cassette tape on my forearm with my Uncle Mike's name written in! Getting it on December 18th, which is my bro and uncles bday! Super awesome!!!

That's it for me, for now...

Over and out!!!!

The MOvember Fundraiser last weekend was beyond rad (pun certainly intended!)

Sold 18 tees and raised close to $600 bucks - mix that with a lot of help from my pals, we put on quite the party!

Honestly, it's a feeling I wish I could translate into text, but again, the mark of a bad writer, I cannot.

That night I'll never forget and it's under becoming an Uncle/Godfather as one of the coolest things I've done.

Thanks to everyone that helps me and supports me!

MO YA!

So we are 3 days deep into the month of MOvember (I'll do my best to never refer to it by it's former name, November, again!)

MOvember is a month where dudes grow moustaches in an effort to raise awareness/funds towards the destruction and oblieration of prostate cancer!

I'm currently in the midst of rocking a handle-bar stache, a la Hulk Hogan! Heck, if we raise enough bucks, I will even dye it blonde!

Fundraiser this Saturday - impossible to be more stoked!!!

Other than that, Halloween was a blast and included a party at Steamwhistle with Katie and the gang, a viewing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, hanging with the fam and seeing Toddler Mikey Nephew Turtle, and horror movies!

Sorry Uncle Mike and Brother Dave,

I tried to get through Pet Sematary without being haunted and terrified, but no dice!!! For one reason and one reason only: ZELDA!!!

Peace,

Steve

OK GO x 5!

Tonight will mark the 5th time I have seen OK GO, making them the band I have seen the most shows of!

Relient K comes in 2nd with 3 times (hopefully 4 this winter)

OK GO have become famous, and even Grammy award winners for their brilliant, well-crafted music videos. A lot of people just dig them because of this...Does this bother me? No, why should it? I'm not even in the band, haha. I love their music and their videos are just bonuses for me! Gosh, these dudes are cool!

THANKS!!!!!

Hope y'all had an awesome THANKSGIVING! (aka Slapsgiving - my gf celebrated this by slapping me, haha)

I try to be as thankful as I can, as often as I can. So though I try to instill this value in me on a daily basis, what better time to do it than the holiday celebrating the feeling of thankfulness.

Here's what I'm thankful for:

-My family, plain and simple. We have been through a lot in the last couple of years but we have stuck together like glue. I love that and wouldn't trade my family in for anyone else! My Nana, Papa and Uncle who watch over us, I am thankful for them and for the super positive impact they have had on me! Also, my nephew Mikey and my upcoming neice/nephew - STOKED!!!

-Katie Stiel. She is nothing but awesome! She is my dream girl and I couldn't have asked for anything more. The Pam to my Jim. The Kelly to my Zack. The Wilma (aaaaaaaaa) to my Fred! She is the best and I'm thankful to be with her!

-For co-starting a t-shirt brand with my pal, Noel, which is called Try This On For Size (ttofs.com), and for starting a brand dedicated to raising awareness to cancer and heart disease, called RAD (rally against disease - radfundrasing.com)

-To be able to, with the help of a ton of great people, throw fundraisiers - next one is November 6th!

-To still be employed and to be on day-shifts! Yaha!

-To have Slurpee coupons thanks to Mikey!

-The Leafs have kicked off the 10/11 season 2-0! Heck ya!

-For eating pumpkin pie for dinner!

-Being able to listen to the Beatles on vinyl, thanks to Mike!

-To see my 1/2 of my favorite current bands, OK GO, this Thursday, for the 5th time, and potentially seeing the other half, Relient K, in Ohio doing an acoustic Christmas set this December!

-For all my friends, just great people, who have helped me out a ton!

Went to a sweet dinner party last night! Not nearly as awkward as Michael Scotts...We had delicious appetizers from m'lady, a seafood bake and an apple crisp! We also played some games. It was great!

Recommended a band by friends: Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - been listening to Shake the Sheets all morning! Listen to Little Dawn/Heart Problems. So catchy!

Be kind. (to everyone)

Last month on my way to work I was approached by a dude (Mr. X) who gave me a "speech" that his Mom was sick in Toronto with cancer, and he made his way from Barrie to see her, despite the fact that his wallet was depleted.

Now, I'd do anything for family, as I thought this guy was doing, so when he kindly asked of me to purchase a GO Ticket for him, I thought the least I could do was help out.

I told him we'll head back and grab a ticket, then he said he didn't leave until after midnight, and if we got it now, the ticket would become void, leaving him stranded yet again and my wallet 14 dollars lighter for nothing. Right there, I should have said, "Sorry bro, that's the best I can do", but I let naivety get the best of me that evening and forked the money over, along with some additional cash for a cuppa coffee. Am I a saint for performing this act? Hardly. In fact some could argue that I am walked a fine line, falling more towards the side of "grade-A sucker". The hot dog vendor whom I purchased a, you guessed it, hot dog from then asked me if I knew that guy. I told him no and he gave me the impression that he was a scammer. Ah, I still gave him the benefit of the doubt the best I could, yet still couldn't shake the thought of being potentially "bamboozled".

There is a homeless man (Mr. Y) I always saw when I worked days. Every so often I would wear a shirt from the flick 28 days later saying "infected." This particular gentleman was enamored with this tee and every time I walked by him he would always ask me why I wasn't wearing it. Very friendly and I had no problem freeing up some of my change for this dude.

This past Monday Mr. X approached me again and recognized me and asked again if I could help him. This time I had to say no and my suspicions were confirmed when I say Y and he said X does this all the time and is only nice when people give him money.

I told Y he was one of the nicest people I have met, and he said something that stuck with me, "I don't pick and choose who I say 'God Bless You' to."

She said "sais don't matter"!!!!!

This long-weekend, I

- made pizzas, bowled and got to hang a bunch with Katie

- karaoke'd with my Mom, James, Katie and Noel! Hits included Don't Look Back In Anger (surprise, surprise), Stand By Me, What's The Story Morning Glory, Don't Let Me Down, A Day In The Life, Jizz In My Pants, Christmas Is All Around Me, Daughter and more!

- played one the wii-updated version of one of my favorite NES games: A Boy And His Blob! Also nearing the end of New Super Mario Bros. Wii - ya, I know, I'm slacking!!!

- watched the first half of Season 2 of Flight Of The Conchords, which is more brilliant than the first! Is that possible?

- had chinese food with my Mom, and watched Breakfast Club!

Coming to theatres this Christmas...

STEVE THOUGHTS Vol. 24589.7

Yo, yo! What's up, universe? Digging your vibes lately; here's why:

- FanExpo Canada last week with Noel and I's t-shirt biz, Try This On For Size (http://www.ttofs.com/) setting up shop and selling tees! Sold 102 total (+2 RAD fundraising shirts) and met a ton of people that were cool to say the least! It was great and encouraging to be surrounded by so much positive energy in preparing. Long nights, barely any sleep and tons of hard work (Noel more-so) but it's paying off and it's only getting bigger and better from here! Noel: thanks for including me in all of this broski - you're a true pal!

- After Expo concluded we hit up the bar for beers, and wings and copious amounts of Tequila (I HAD TO WORK, JEFF!!!). We also received a call all the way from Austrailia from our best buds Justin and Amanda! Really rad hearing from them!

- Just got offered a day job in tape vault today at work - sayonara night shifts!!!

- In the midst of planning to get a tattoo very soon, gonna be great!

- Congrats to my buddy Josh, who is now a member of the Uncle Club! Welcome aboard, dude; you're going to love it! Again, probably a sign my writing skills are rubbish, but the feeling is truly impossible to describe! Congrats to your bro, Jake as well!

- Mikey is just, awesome - love hanging with that dude!

- Katie is also awesome and it's great to hang with her after a very busy summer! Grand Bend next mo'friggin weekend!

- I hope to skimboard next weekend, and as much as I love summer, I'm stoked for Fall as that leads to Thanksgiving, Halloween and of course Hanukkah and Christmas!!!

- I just love my family and my life, man!

Be well,

S to the Gski!

HOME ALONE MIKEY!!!

Rolling Stone's top 100 BEATLES tunes of ALL TIME!

HERE!

STEVE PILGRIM???!!!??!!?!

I know, I know, I've made a Scott Pilgrim character before so while you're muttering under your breath that I'm fresh out of ideas and recycling blog posts, please hear me out!

A former co-worker friend of mine, Gillian had this to say when asked if she had seen/read SP: "Haven't seen the movie, but read the first few books. Mentally replaced "Scott Pilgrim" with "Steve Gillon" throughout"

And my bff, Hollie was heard to remark: "Read the first volume of Scott Pilgrim and he might as well be called Steve Gillon!"

haha honestly, being the gigantic SP fan that I am, I think that is soooo cool! Maybe it's the fact I'm a dork who loves music and video games! Maybe cause in the midst of my awkwardness there are small glimpses of humor ! I bet it's the fact I can pull a sword through my chest at will!

-21 Months with Katie Stiel, ah-ah-ah-ah-mazing!!!!

-My Mom's b-day was yesterday, had a really great day with her! We hung out with my 1.5 yr-old nephew, Mikey and then buffet'd at Tuckers. Good times! Tonight we are going to have a few (substantially more than a few) beers, and hang with my friends!

-SCOTT PILGRIM was beyond awesome! One of my fave movies for sure! Can't even put it into words (and I'm a journalist?) please do yourself a favor and see this movie...

Proverbial

has been on the short-list of my favorite words to use lately. Not sure why, but when utilized properly and efficiently, it’s a great word to have. Recently I’ve really been trying to expand my vocabulary, or inflate my vernacular as it were. So next time you’re slightly inebriated and want to come off intelligent, bust out words like vernacular; it’s a proverbial game-changer!

Peace, harmony and good tidings, my friends.

Dear Blog...

I can explain. I know you are thinking since I've turned 26, that I don't have time for you anymore. But I'm very sorry; it's just things have been busy. I know that's no excuse, but I can change, I promise. I swear I haven't been reading many other blogs. You'll always be the blog for me. Man, I'm weird!

I am 26 and it's pretty cool. Although instantly I feel more tired in this past week than I have for the past quarter century, them's the breaks! It's all good, I partied with my family, pals and roommates last weekend and hit the waves first thing Sunday morning for my first Skimboarding session of the year - man, it was awesome! I partook in the adventure solo, and I forgot how exhausting (but AWESOME) it truly is. It isn't the same without my skim-mate Justin, but this is just more time to practice!

Today marks the 23rd birthday of my true love, KATHRYN! Sure, it's mushy but she is the best and I hardly have any qualms informing people of that, though it's easy to see upon being greeted by her (awww). She's in B.C. right now, schooling it up, but I await her return with great anticipation

That's it for now, bloggity!

2-6!

I'm a quarter of a century + 1! Pretty cool, man, pretty cool!

Things have changed in the last few years, I've done plenty of growing up and I'm trying to be the best dude I can be; help out, be kind, spend time with my family, gf, friends and just be happy and live a good life!

And tonight, my Mom and myself and my Aunt and Uncle continue a tradition that my Bro and Uncle Mike laid the groundwork for: Tucker's Buffet! Going to be a good day.

Hanging with my roommates tomorrow and Friday singing Karaoke with my friends at Ace's

Song(s) Of The Week!

Yes, friends, we have a tie this week! Three equally catchy and happy songs:

1A) Lovely, Love My Family: The Roots - A great, positive melody with fantastic lyrics from one of my fave hip hop groups! These guys are great and this tune is from Yo Gabba Gabba - a brilliant kids show!

1B) See Your Sunshine: Paul McCartney - A very nice little love song from the man himself, with lines like, "She makes me feel glad/I'll have to say that I adore her" - beautiful and awesome!

1C) Wonderin': Toby Mac (Feat. Matt Thiessen of Relient K) - Mellow and upbeat in nature. A big fan of RK obviously, and any tune that Matt collaborates on is more often than not heavily listened to by me (See: Terminals by Owl City and Nuisance by John Reuben)

I could do a boatload of these - the last month, I've been borrowing Beatles albums from the Library and seeing Rain only amped up my urge to listen to more Beats! Getting 'With The Beatles' (aka Beatles Second Album) this week as well as 'Hard Day's Night' (hopefully).

It's hard to pick my fave Beatles record - I thought I had it down to 'Please, Please Me', but 'Sgt. Pepper's'(My bro's fave) has got me hooked lately! Why do I have to narrow it down to just one? Not sure, and not sure if I even can! It's fun!

Have you ever wondered...

What you would look like with a moustache? Here's what I look like with one:

Sushi is ichiban (#1)...

in my books! Seriously, it's high on the list of Steve's favorite cuisines right now!

Before dating Katie, I was only privy to Metro-style Sushi (Don't get me wrong, I mean no disrespect to the fine sushi rollers of Metro) but I'd yet to experience restaurant Sushi!

That all changed in November 2008 when Katie (a Sush verteran) and I frequented an establishment and fast foward to now, it's become almost a monthly occurance...we've even tried making our own!

The best all-around is Go Tempura, located on James and Cannon (I think/hope) in Hamilton and they have 3 sweet dragon rolls (which may or may not contain REAL dragon!)

Katie loves the spicy salmon, which is rad. My fancy is the crispy spicy!

Other notes from the weekend...

-First the first time my friends bailing turned out to be a good thing! Katie (who brought me a Slurpee) and I ended up seeing Eclipse! That's right I admit it, and it was good compared to the previous two! While this news may nominate me as king of the lames, I readily will tell anyone as Katie and I had a great time - in the front row, fist-pumps and all! From there we enjoyed Lick's (thank you, coupons) and then a beer at Winking Judge, while pursuing trivia!

-Seeing my nephew, who was being goofy and making me laugh uncontrollably!

-Seeing my Bro, Sister and Mom!

-Doing shirt-stuff with Noel! Fan Expo is fast approaching and a lot of cool things are on the go!

-Exchanging Tweets about comics (2 to be exact, haha) with IC champ - Kofi Kingston!

That's all for me, yo!

Pre B-day fun!

Because Katie is going to be in BC during my actual b-day (7/28) she took me to Toronto for a weekend on the town this weekend, and it was great!

Saturday night we arrive to TO and stayed with Katie's friend, Steph and her beau, Brian. We hung out in their lake-front condo, which was a penthouse, and then headed for a walk near the lake and then a beer on a patio.

Sunday morning started with some chocolate-chip pancakes, and then we headed to Steam Whistle for a tour of their brewery, and then some samples! Was so great how they are loyal to just their brand; won't sell-out and are environmentally conscious and friendly! I urge you to attend this tour which totally emcompases Steam Whistle: informative, unique and awesome!

From there Katie surprised me by taking me to Rain: A Beatles Tribute! To say I was blown away both by the gift and the actual experience itself would be a huge injustice! Words can't describe how stoked I was and how closely they resembled The Beatles themselves. If you are even remotely a fan of The Beatles, you must see this! Great time!

From there, Katie treated me to a delicious burrito and then Katie took one for the team (the Mexican Base-ball Cats) and watched the wrestling ppv with me and some friends! What a trooper, but she can sleep easy tonight knowing I won't make her endure that sort of punishment anymore!

Great day, great day! I seriously love that girl! Not for the gifts she gives me but just how great she is. Awesome!

From brain to blog!

-GREAT weekend! Friday Katie, her friend Vic, Noel and I had dinner, talked shirts and then got drunk and sang some karaoke! My Mom was even there! Saturday saw Noel and I voyage to Toronto to visit our pals Ian and Caroline! We had some more drinks (sorry, liver!) and then sing more karaoke (sorry, throat!)

-Sunday Katie, my Mom and I went to Amanda's parents for Barb's birthday! Swims were swam, chickens were bbq'd (not to be confused with "grilled") and laughs were had - mostly because of my nephew, Michael. Anyone that has spent a second with me since Feb '09 knows I think the world of this little guy, and for good reason! His personality develops ten-fold everytime we hang, and I am simply in awe of how quickly he's growing up! Fresh off of his first hair-cut, Mikey was feeling good. He was feeling confident; so much so he decided to get his groove on next to m'lady! He was flirting with Katie all day and ended the night off with some kisses! Dude works quick, and there is no harm losing out to that little charmer!

-Got to briefly see some old friends, and see some current ones! Sucks we all can't hang as much as we can, but I'm understanding as some weeks whiz by, but that's how it goes!

-Sunday was also my favorite day of the summer: 7/11 day! FREE THUMB SIZED SLURPEES FOR ALL!

-I'm hooked on waffles. Especially those of the chocolate-chipped persuasion

-This weekend Katie is taking me to Toronto in celebration of my upcoming day o' birth, and has a super-top-secret day in store for yours-truly! Truthfully, it could just consist of taking me to get a burritto and I'd be more than happy - I just like being with Katie! Gaaawwww!

-Beatles never cease to amaze me. Always a fan! Picked up some records from the much-frequented library last week (Please, Please Me, White Album, Rubber Soul) All Awesome! PPM has made it's way into my top 5, sitting at #2, behind only What's The Story, Morning Glory by Oasis!

-But I am off to get some "work" done at work - fancy that, eh? Than go see my Mom, eat Mcd's and watch cartoons, laugh and spin with Michael!

But first, some of my current fave songs at the moment:

-Cinderella Man by Eminem (also Talkin' To Myself is great)

-Nobody's Accusing You (Of Having A Good Time) by Hot Hot Heat, who are playing in Hamilton this fall, consider me there!

-Got To Lose by Hollerado

-The Ulterior Motives by Staylefish

Awesome/Inspiring!

An educational tutorial about the Octopus!

http://theoatmeal.com/story/octopus

UPDATE!!!

Here is what is up in the world known as STEVELAND (name pending)! I haven't been updating this lately (sorry handful of people who read this!) but I love writing lately, especially when you have something to write about. Before I fired up this post, I said to myself, "self: shame you didn't write me earlier on, what with your trusty Journalism diploma and all." Truth is, it's not a shame, it's just I've never really had anything to write about (not saying I do now, but I feel as I do)

-Ottawa last week was tremendous! I've never been previously but went with Katie and her friends to see more of her friends. I'm not well versed in politics but it was cool seeing the Parliment building! Their McDonalds also had security - McCrazy! I also had a burger with peanutbutter - unprecendented! Super glad I went!

-Hanging with my Mom and nephew, Mikey once a week for breakfast/playtime is one of my favorite things to do - I love it! We just goof around and play and have fun and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!

-Tonight Katie, Katie's friend Vic, Noel and myself are going out for a business dinner to discuss shirt biznass, and then proceed to get drunk singing some Karaoke! Stoked! Practicing my Will Smith.

-Then tomorrow Noel and I are going to see Ian and Caroline in TO and sing and drink more - sorry throat and liver!

-Sunday seeing some family and swim! Then maybe visit a Toys 'R' Us function and say hey to some friends! It's also 7/11 - one of my favorite days of the year!

-Saw Toy Story 3, Hot-tub Time Machine, Paper Heart and Fanboys this week. Toy Story was beyond rad - my personal movie of the year so far! Fanboys was also super well done!

That's all for now, friends.

Long live the weekend!

Six hours...360 minutes till I jog on from work, escape Toronto hopefully quickly and successfully and head home to start the weekend!

The weekend is a glorious event that occurs to mostly everyone every 5 days. Being on nights kind of sucks, but hey that's ok! I'm going to head home, grab a bowl of cereal or a bran muffin (both if I'm feeling cra-zee) and watch some Spectacular Spider-Man before grabbing a few hours of sleep. After I awake I am going to head over to see my girlfriend, Katie, and induldge in some more home-made sushi! From there we are going to head to a stag and doe for Jon and Shayla, who I know from College. It's going to be great to see some old friends! When we are done there, Noel and I are going to be printing some tees into the late/early hours of the night, a common occurance for us these days!

Saturday there is a poker game, which is always great, and then I am going to ANOTHER stag and doe of my bro and sis' friends so that should be a great time as well!

Sunday my cousin is having a baby shower, and my Mom, Amanda and Michael are attending as my bro and I plan to watch some wrestling!

In other news my nephew can almost say my name, haha! So awesome!

I also sleep through earthquakes, no big deal!

Whoa! Undead! Zombies! Guitar! NPH!

A lot of reasons to be thankful/happy!

I pride myself on being as positive as I can, no matter how difficult it is to see through the clouds sometimes. Lately I have found myself more frustrated than normal (channeling adolescent Steve!), but I feel more relaxed, more chill, more positive again.

The FUNdraiser we threw put me in my place. Chatting with one of my pals, Scott, whose Grandparents suffered from cancer as well. We were saying about how people (myself included) complain about day-to-day frustrations like they are the end of the world, but when you step back, they are literally not worth thinking about, let alone fretting over.

People deal with things differently, but more and more I remind myself not to complain because someone always has it worse.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. But I do have a lot to be thankful for:

-Another successful (the most successful to date) fundraiser. Had a blast!

-Homemade Sushi dinner from Ms. Kathryn Stiel = delicious! Nothing like chowing down on crispy-spicy in the comfort of your own living quarters! Katie even watched wrestling with me last night, and it was awesome (for me, haha!) Ladies and gents - I present to you, my dream girl!

-My bro and Amanda just celebrated 10 years together. Before I met Katie, they were (and are) my inspiration that true love exists. Couldn't be happier for them!

-A recurring character in my "thankful" posts, one Michael Gillon. This guys personality is shining through and he provides me with me tons of laughs! We are watching Yo Gabba Gabba tomorrow with my Mom!

-Shirt-making with Noel is going well! Fan Expo in August and it's fast approaching. We may butt heads almost daily, but no one I'd rather do it with!

-Got a call from another best pal, Justin the other night, wishing us luck - all the way from the other side of the earth...miss that dude!

-Maybe road-tripping to Ottawa with Kathryn next week, very cool!

-And I just heard a HUGE secret today, which I can't talk about right now, but holy crap, Bat-man!!!!

Did someone say bat???? I'm out of here! AHHHH!

Funds-Raised!

Man, what a great time we the other night at the Fundraiser! Almost 70 people attended and we jam-packed the den at the Tap House, creating a human fire practically! Ok, not really, but it was HOT in there - Pedro from Nap. Dynamite style!

It was way more than worth it as we got to see some old and new faces, had some beers, got peeps talking about our brand of shirts and raffled off some great items supplied by great people!

A girl I worked with formely at Toys 'R' Us, Molly, who is awesome, was chatting to me and thanked me and my pals for doing this, and again, it wouldn't be possible without all the great help we had! I set out for the goal of $1,000 and two weeks before we were barely over $100, so it was great to see everyone rally together for this. It's bigger than last year and will be hopefully BIGGER next year.

Word,

Steve

FUNdraiser!

TOMORROW! I for one am stoked. This is the 3rd Fundraiser we've thrown in 11 months. All proceeds from ticket/raffle sales will be donated to Heart&Stroke/Juravinski - 2 important causes to me personally as 3 of the most important people in my life hands down (Nana, Papa, Uncle Mike)

So far we have raised $460 and counting - my personal goal is $1,000 but if we can't reach it (hopefully we can exceed it) it's still a success in my books, because what I've learned is EVERY bit helps, no matter how little.

One thing I always hear is, "that's great what you guys are doing!" Truth is, it's really not that much. That's not me eating a delicious slice of humble pie, but it's everyone that donate/attends that is making this all possible. We are simply providing a platform to do so!

I cannot wait, dudes, cannot wait!

E3 gives way to stellar Nintendo Wii line-up!!!

This week is E3 - a gamers Christmas, to put it midly!
My roomate and I got to talking yesterday and he gave me a review of what was announced for Nintendo's Wii. I should have been sitting down because I am almost lost my bearings when hearing about some of the upcoming titles:

DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS to Nintendo after a lengthy hiatus and promises to be better than ever! DKC for the SNES is one of my favorite games in history and is as close to perfection as a game can get!

Metroid M combines the classic 2D action fans of Samus have come to love while
combining it with play similar to the popular Metroid Prime series!

A NEW NBA JAM!?!?!? Only one word springs to mind: BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Kirby's Epic Yarn sees everyones favorite pink, cuddly warrior placed in a world full of...well, yarn! Looks like this will be hard to put down!

Batman: The Brave And The Bold sees ol' Bats return to the side-scrolling "beat-em-up" that I hold so near and dear!

I think it goes without saying that The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is cholk-full of sword fights, will be legend...(wait for it)...dary! Authors Note: pun intended

Even Epic Mickey, a game in which Mickey Mouse restores some colour back in to the Disney-verse, looks like it would be fun to play!

Goldeneye is back, which proved to be music (or gunshots) to players ears after     much rejoicing over this news.

Book, out!

Hey ya'll. Last Friday the fam and I got together for a small little ceremony commemerating the life and times of my Nana and Papa and putting them in their plot, next to my uncle Mike. I really tried to make this a great day, thinking of the great times, as opposed to the ones chock-full of sorrow!

My Mom had an (excellent) idea, wherein I wrote a little (lengthy) piece to put in with them and here it is:

I am a positive person (or “dude” as I normally refer to myself as, but hey, this is some classy writing here.) I have a truckload, nay, a boatload to be thankful for.

For instance, I have food on my plate, paste on my toothbrush, and a bed to sleep on complete with a rooftop overhead. But besides that I have been born into a stellar family. A family filled with some of the bravest, caring and remarkable people one could dream of knowing, let alone be related to. I am a positive person because I have been surrounded by this family my whole life and I realize how thankful I am.

One of the first things I can recollect when reflecting about my toddler years was the Incredible Hulk like temper I was blessed (cursed) with. It’s a sliding scale. Tantrums were thrown, breaths were held. I even threatened to bang my head against the pavement in lieu of not getting my way. My parents, the smart cookies that they are, realized my empty threats and called my bluff. If I had a tail, it would rest squarely between my legs as I marched in my room, a defeated and grounded boy.

When I wasn’t trying to inflict punishment on myself, it was more often than not directed towards my older, cooler and calmer brother, Dave. He vary rarely took the opportunity to return the favor and knock my block off. He was very tolerant towards me, even though I often didn’t deserve it.

We weren’t always at odds, however. We played together quite a bit. My bro is four and a half years my senior but when we did play together we could be found co-promoting a show consisting of our trusty WWF LJN rubber wrestling toys. We loved wrestling so much we decided to try our hands at the sport by setting our sights on the coveted Tag Team titles held by our once lovable, plush companions, now turned enemies: Big and Orange Ted. Our basement morphed into an arena as the furry duo proved to be worthy adversaries but at the end of the day, they were just fake teddy bears and we eventually captured the championships and the glory associated with toppling those cuddly competitors.

Dave and I spent a lot of time together, and if we weren’t it was because
a) he wanted to play alone and have his own He-Man adventures or b) because I got sent to my room for not letting him play He-Man in peace. I wasn’t a monster all the time growing up, mostly when we stayed at our Nana and Papa’s or our Uncle Mike’s.

At the time we lived down the street for our Nana and Papa and our visits were frequent. Our parents were enrolled in a bowling league, and as a result our Grandparents were given the responsibility of watching Dave and I. We loved it because our Grandparents were a lot of fun to be around (as were our parents) but we would always watch the WWF Cavalcade of Wrestling and Hockey Night in Canada. That’s not all; we would also get to eat copious amounts of candy and stay up late! Oh, and we bathed together, but that’s just because our family conserved water and we were environmentally conscious before it was cool!

One time our Papa took Dave and I on a hike and on the way home, he hid a five dollar bill in the grass and once we “found” it we couldn’t have been more pleased with our discovery! We also roped Papa into buying bread so we could feed the ducks as well. This however, was prior to us finding the fin or else we would have pitched in!

As far back as I can remember Uncle Mike was always a fun dude who loved Tiramisu! Whether he was dressing up as the Macho Man or throwing a fake centipede in the bath me and Dave were in, causing Dave to vomit, he was a blast! Yeah, I made it a point to mention again that we bathed together, haha!

We would also stay at our Uncle Mike’s often as well, and again, was very cool in our books. We would stuff our faces with candy, and after a trip to That’s Entertainment would acquire a movie of the horror genre. As stated before I am four and a half years Dave’s junior, so I had to put on the brave face when perusing through the spooky section, and when Mike was loading up the VCR with whatever title we picked that no doubt featured ghosts, goblins and a booby or two!

One instance I recall was when we rented Stephen King’s Pet Semetary. Now, I figured it was a couple of cats running around, hissing and killing, no big deal, right? Boy, was I wrong. Before we even started the movie, Mike inquired about why there was a patio chair perched atop his picnic table. Surely none of us put it there, so who was the culprit? Was it perpetrated by the same sort of witch-craft found within the cassette tape we were about to watch? He was just messing with us, but I was already beyond frightened before we even hit the play button! It didn’t help there was some creepy girl in the movie, Zelda, whom one of the characters had to feed due to her illness. If that wasn’t bad enough, when taking us to bed Mike filled me in on the “attic dwarves” he had in, you guessed it, the attic. Of course the entrance to the attic was in the room I was sleeping in that night, or the room I would be wide-awake, terrified in, to be more accurate.

I made in through the night, not without a nightmare where I assumed the feeding chores for Zelda. Needless to say we all had a good laugh the next morning over our bowl of Shreddies and it took me over twelve years before I ever watched Pet Semetary again, and it still scared the heck out of me, not because it’s scary, but because of that night in question. As much as I was petrified I still laughed along and knew it was all in good fun, and fun was one thing Mike was never lacked.

He also always had my back. I don’t like to point fingers or gloss over things, but some things just don’t need to be brought up to one’s parents. Whether it was eating too many chocolate covered Turtles treats, or spinning a bird cage too much (accidentally), causing the cage to fall and the bird, Roddy, to escape for his cage. Those incidents took place at my Uncle Mike’s, and while I did get in trouble, it wasn’t from Mike!

Our family was pretty close-knit on my Mom’s side and because of that we made regular visits to our Nana and Papa’s and Mike’s and that was A-ok with us!

Dave and I didn’t watch wrestling much during this time. Our obsession began since I was a toddler, but the resulting violent streak bestowed upon me from watching it forced my parents to ban me from it for the foreseeable future. Aside from the odd show watched, or a magazine or two read, it wasn’t on our list of priorities.

That all changed in June 1996 when Mike invited all the family over for a barbeque and because of his acquisition of a cable box; a WWF pay-per-view as well!

Mike enjoyed the show, especially Stone Cold Steve Austin, as we all did, and plans were made to catch another show down the line. The next show we saw was in September of 1996, and collectively Dave, Mike and I never missed a WWF pay-per-view until November of 2000!

It was during this time, in September of 1997, that my parents got separated. I’m not sure if I conveyed it enough thus far, but my family was a big part of my life back then (still is). I was thirteen at the time, so between pimples, new hair in places, other puberty issues and now this separation, I was pretty overwhelmed…

That very day the news was broken to us, my Uncle Mike took me along with his daughter, Randi to the African Lion Safari in an effort to take my mind off of things. After vomiting on the way there, I did end up having a pretty good day, but I just had so much going through my brain – I was devastated. This was also at the time vomiting wasn’t part of my daily routine, as it is now.

Mike quickly became a rock for my Mom, whose life had been flipped upside-down, and Dave and I as well. The night it went down Mike took my Mom to Nana and Papa’s to tell them of the sad news. My Papa, the ever-loving jokester that he is, lightened the mood be proclaiming divorce as nothing more than a “fad.”

Despite having a family of his own; Mike always welcomed us over for dinners constantly through the week. One particular occasion saw him refer to my brother and I as the “Divorce Kids.” He received a not-so discreet kick from my Aunt under the table for his remark. Dave laughed very hard, and I did think it was funny, but I was still shaken up. Now I laugh my head off looking back, as humor is a great coping mechanism for me and my family when going through difficult times.

While most kids in my situation could have turned to drinking and drugs and other vices at a young age as a result of divorce, I opted for a different direction thanks to Mike: church.

Mike recently started attending the church near his house, and I tagged along most Sundays from then on out. I became pretty fascinated and borderline obsessed early on, but after I cooled down a bit, I realized it was a great thing to have in my life. It was a constant, much like my family. I didn’t understand some of the things that were said during the sermons, but I did grasp the positive influence that both church and my uncle were having on me.

This also was around the time I started to get into listening to music. Believe it or not I used to despise music. Why? I couldn’t tell you to be honest. I just remember my bro listening to bands like Green Day, Nirvana, Foo Fighters and me going from Banner to Hulk in seconds, screaming at him to turn it down, when it was in fact being played at an appropriate level! Said bands are now among my favorites. I will add that apology to the list for Dave, along with a thousand others after I finish this book!

After church in 1997, Mike and I would hang out and we started listening to Oasis’ “What’s The Story, Morning Glory?” record, and I started really beginning to like them, as well as the above mentioned bands. For Christmas that year, one of Mike’s gifts (besides Ring King and WWF Steel Cage Challenge for the
NES) was recording me a cassette copy of the Oasis record, and I listened to it non-stop! It’s my favorite album of all time!

During the fall of 1998, October 25th to be exact, there was a WCW pay-per-view on that night. Dave was out as the trio didn’t make plans to watch it and we weren’t nearly as eager/religious when it wasn’t a WWF pay-per-view, but I remember Mike calling me that night and wanted to know if I wanted to watch it anyways. Of course I was down, and we watched it and had a blast while doing so, joking around as usual. It was a special date that I will get to again later on.

My Mom, Dave, Patches Rudegar (Yes, I gave our cat a middle name and it was awesome, haha!) and I had moved into an apartment, and my Dad got a place of his own during this time. I can’t put into words how much my Mom looked out for us back then. She would sacrifice anything/everything as long as it provided us with shelter/food/clothing. Back then, I knew she was doing everything for us, but now I realize to what degree. She is a modern-day, living, breathing saint!

In February of the new millennium, I was side-lined with a broken leg after slipping on ice as the result of being late for a math test and racing to the school as fast as my feet could carry me! The Doc informed me that I would have a cast that extended from my hip to my toes for at least four weeks (turned out to be five. Doctors – pffft), and that I would be virtually bed-ridden in the meantime. Mike didn’t hesitate and lent me his cablebox for me to watch movies and wrestling!

In April of 2000, Dave had met a friend of the daughter of my Dad’s girlfriend at the time. Confusing huh? Her name was Amanda. She was, and still is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She is honest and caring and just pure nice; her family as well. Unfortunately, this new union didn’t sit well with me, and I was a bigger jerk than normal constantly yelling and flailing in the background while they were on the telephone. Yeah, I was 16 at the time. Maturity at it’s finest. I was, to put it mildly, a jerk. I’ll leave it at that.

If I had any defense at all (I didn’t), it was that my brother and I were linked by strong, cosmic force. Divorce? Yeah, sure. But Slurpees is a stronger, more appropriate fit for this particular situation. We loved our Slurpees. It became a ritual that I would meet my brother every Friday night, after ECW Wrestling was over and after Dave was done work. I always thought it was pretty cool he hung out with me all the time, especially when I was acting like a tool shed when it came to his relationship.

About a year later my Uncle Mike started going through a divorce. I felt awful for him as he took it very hard, and rightfully so. We didn’t hang out as much as before at this point unfortunately but it was always great to see him when I could.

He ended up moving in with Nana and Papa, but he always made a point to see his daughters Randi and Samantha whenever he could. They were now relocated to scenic Dunnville, and I remember joining Mike on a trip to pick them up where we listened to Nirvana and talked.

Things were changing again in my life, as I had come to learn/expect. Dave had moved in with Amanda and her parents, and they later became engaged. My Mom was dating a guy, Russ, whom had moved in and soon after problems were popping up faster than pimples on prom night. I have nothing against Russ now, but at the time he put my Mom through a lot, including a brush with the law.

As a result, my Mom ended up staying at my Nana and Papa’s as well (Mike had moved out at the time) and again just showing the sincerity and graciousness of my Nana and Papa. No questions asked they helped my Mom; a great quality they have definitely instilled in her as well. During that time I was living the life of a bachelor with the family cat: Patches Rudegar!

Things got back to normal and Mike was doing well, and he was living again with Nana and Papa. Christmas of 2004 we all were at my Nana and Papa’s before heading to Shelley and Ron’s for our traditional feast of roast beast. Randi and Sam were down and Mike was determined to give them a great Christmas – which he did. I just remember the look on his face as he watched them open their gifts – it was like nothing else in the world mattered, because he was with his daughters and the rest of his family.

Heading into 2005, Dave and Amanda were in the final stages of completing the preparation for their wedding, which was to be held on June 18th of that year.

Around this time, I was hanging out with my buddies Noel, Mitch and Justin and we had some crazy times drinking and partying, but for the most part our conversations came back to one topic and one topic only: knitting! I am kidding, wrestling of course!

We had done some training and were performing at shows, and while we were no Bone-saw Mcgraw’s we were getting better and more confident in our abilities and we wanted to improve and get on more shows!

In the meantime, our primary shows were held Saturday mornings every three months or show. Yeah, nothing quite like starting the day with some Shreddies and some suplexes. That March I battled Ian for Saturday morning supremacy and I feel we had a fun little match seen by thirty, count ‘em, thirty people!

None the less I had placed a phone call to my Papa’s residence the night before, assuring them I would return from this fearsome contest in the same condition in which I had entered. When I called post-fight, I talked to Mike, who was so excited when I told him about the match -it was awesome! We agreed that as soon as I had the tape, he would be up to watch it. He was ready to come up and see it the next day, but I couldn’t get the tape in time. We never did get to watch that match together…We once watched my first match ever, and though I was never one to boast I had improved 80% since then and I wanted Mike to see it…

Mike did end up stopping by a few weeks later however, for some pizza from Pizza Hut, where I received a free DVD copy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie – my favorite flick then, now and forever! It was also the day Noel and Mike got to meet. Noel had just gone through a break-up and I think it cheered him up hanging with us, at least I hope so.

Good Friday there was an annual Easter hike that most of the family took part in. My Papa and Mike were unsure if they were going to go and I never ended up going, which I really should have. Good Friday still turned out to be good though, as Justin informed Noel and myself that we would be receiving a tryout with a sweet wrestling company. We were stoked!

Easter Sunday of that year was a great one, and bittersweet looking back on it now. My Uncle Mike and I chatted quite a bit, and he was excited for me about the impending tryout. Mike had been through a lot emotionally, but he was really having a good time that day. We took some goofy pictures, and you can really tell looking back how happy and sincere our smiles were. Couple of good lookin’ dudes for sure!

We were also talking about the Stag-And-Doe (Jack & Jill, Buck & Doe, etc, etc) for Dave and Amanda. Mike and I promised we were going to have a blast, get good and drunk together, and get into fights! Maybe not the caliber of Papa’s fights in his hey-day, but we would try our best!

The night ended with a drunken and happy Mike serenading the family with his rendition of ‘Two Pina Coladas’ by Garth Brooks. It was awesome!

The tryout went well and we all ended up getting booked on future shows. My first bout was that May, and it was totally the biggest single break I ever got in wrestling, and was extremely grateful and excited! I couldn’t wait to tell my family, especially Mike!

We still always visited with our Nana and Papa. I always loved going down there for an afternoon. My Papa would never let me take the bus, insisting he come pick me up. He even let me drive his van when I started taking driving lessons! My Mom and Nana said I started driving like him – a compliment, for sure!

My Papa was always firm, but fair. I really valued his opinion and was someone that I never wanted to upset. When I gave my Mom a hard time back then (24/7, 365) he would set me straight. But we always had a blast. When I would get there my Nana and Papa would provide me with some beers, a delicious meal, and plenty of laughs!

One thing they said to me, that I always thought was awesome, was they always made a point to tell me and Dave how much it meant when we called or visited. I didn’t see it as something we had to do. Some people dreaded hanging with their families. Not me. Not us. I loved every second of it.

Speaking of love, it was very apparent my Grandparents truly loved each other! Though they bickered from time to time (who doesn’t) they personified what it’s like to love/care for someone in sickness and in health!

They always made sure I was ok. One time, during a blizzard (or as much of a blizzard as Hamilton gets), I went to meet a wrestler downtown after having lunch with my Nana and Papa. I wasn’t feeling well that day, and I waited for a while, but not without my Papa stopping by with some nourishment from Nana!

Papa Fred possessed a sense of humor not seen by most people. He was hilarious and at times, crude (which was even more hilarious). But therein lies the charm of it all. He always joked around and could ease the tension and lighten the mood with a simple joke. This quality was passed down to Mike and Dave and I share in it as well!

Remember the date of October 25, earlier? Well on that day in 1998 I had a great time with Mike and fast forward exactly one decade later, where I had a great time with my Papa as well.

In the morning, I picked up my Papa, and took him out to Haldimand Motors, as he was thinking about purchasing an automobile. It was such a fun time. As usual, my Papa was hilarious, and we laughed a lot. A classic line I’ll never forget is when he said to me, “Can’t you just drive drunk, get in trouble, and I’ll have your car?” He obviously didn’t mean it, but that’s what made it so funny.

We didn’t have any luck on finding him a new vehicle, but we had a great time in the process, just talking during the drive and having lunch at Tim Horton’s. Later that night, I actually met my girlfriend, Katie at a Halloween party and that just adds to the date, making it all the more special.

Some other good (great) news at the time was Dave and Amanda were months from having their first child. I was beyond ecstatic, as was everyone, but I just couldn’t wait to be an Uncle. They didn’t want to know the sex, but Papa predicted it would be a boy, and he always referred to the baby as “Billy”.

My Nana was the patriarch of our family. She was always cooking HUGE Christmas dinners during our childhood years – which we gobbled down like vultures! How they packed as many people as they did into their little house over the holidays I’ll never know – but it happened, and it always seemed that there was still room to spare.

My Nana had an endless supply of delicious meals that she made and I’d put her mixed spaghetti and homemade french friends against any other meal ever – they were that good!

My Nana was short in height, but not on love or determination. She went through more in the last two years than most people go through in an entire lifetime. She and my Papa had heart problems that required heart bypasses and they also endured cancer. On top of all that, my Nana suffered a broken hip by falling down in the basement. While normally that would have immobilized someone her age (73 at the time), or worse, she persevered and overcame the odds; a recurring theme in her life.

I referred to her as a cyborg and no one in our family ever questioned her toughness. Dave said if she got hit by a car she would just get up, wipe herself off and just keep going, no big deal!

While we were always close, I bonded even more with my Nana a lot over the past few years. I became her personal grocery shopper! I got it down to a science after a while, memorizing and realizing what made for a successful grocery run!

I loved listening to my Nana and Papa’s stories – they had quite a few of them, and they were great tales with some crazy and hilarious moments! Nana always said she should write a book, and given the experiences I witnessed and the stories I heard, it would be a best-seller for sure! Our family always joked that if there were a reality series made about us – it would be a smash hit!

My Nana always told me that she appreciated everything I did for her, and that feeling was obviously reciprocated. But I didn’t do it for any reason other than I loved her and I wanted to help out as much as I can, as I know she has done for me and everyone in the family as well.

I can’t take that much credit, I just helped out as best I can. My Mom, Uncle Brian, Aunt Sandy and the rest of the family really came together to help out when Nana and Papa got sick. I can see where they get their kind hearts from!

If families were glue, Nana and Papa would be super glue; holding us together no matter what, and if the glue stopped holding, they would eventually mend us all back together. It’s bittersweet that in them getting sick, they brought us all together as a cohesive unit once again!

Unfortunately, Mike and Papa were not here to see Dave and Amanda’s beautiful child, Michael (aka Billy) be born. Nana got to see and play with Mikey and you could tell how happy he made her, as well as the rest of us as well. He was a certainly a blessing and a blast of sunlight when things at the time were at their cloudiest.

It’s crazy seeing Michael grow up; just how he’s learning to walk and talk and process everything that he sees and hears. It’s truly amazing. I guess that’s how it was for Mike, Nana and Papa watching us grow up.

While the three of them are no longer here today, I know they are looking down on us, totally in peace. It’s that thought that provides me with tons of comfort, knowing that they are not suffering anymore.

It goes without saying that I will never forget them. How can I ensure that? Well, it’s simple really – if you are always telling stories and remembering people and the good times that you had with them, it’s impossible to ever forget them.

I have always made a promise to myself that if I can be half as cool and make half the positive impact on Michael that Mike, Nana and Papa made on me, then it’ll be a mission no doubt accomplished!
